The Inner Mahi - Mental health

Monday 14th Apr
This is apart of my morning routine, first thing I do as soon as I wake, I make my coffee, and take some time to start my day off centred. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl, I find a lot of peace in writing. Mental health for me consists of shedding the day in a journal, it helps stop thoughts circulating, followed by writing down what I'm grateful for, sometimes they're tangible, intangible, people, experiences, and sometimes their gratefuls for others. I find it makes me appreciative of what I have, and where I'm at in life, very grounding, brings things back into perspective. I can tend to focus on what we don't have, instead of looking at what is in front of me! This meditation journey is something I'm trying to master this year and be consistent with, 4 months on of 5-15 minute meditation sessions and I tell you, I feel the difference, when I feel overwhelmed, I stop what ever I'm doing, breath and if I can, pop on a quick 5 minute meditation to centre myself. Tools are my life saver, for me I've had to practice (especially meditating) but I hope me sharing my tools can help someone else find a bit of peace with themselves, even if it's only for a moment๐ŸŒฟ

Kuia takes on peak with two walking sticks

Monday 7th Apr
The plan today was to tackle Te Mata Peak from the bottom to celebrate finishing the first week of this Kaupapa. So I'm half way up, I'm hyperventilating, sweating, feeling like I'm near having a minor asthma attack (I'm not it's all in my head) I hear a very faint "you can do it dear just keep going", I look up to a little old kuia, who has just walked up the peak, she's on her way down, has two walking sticks and yelling positive words of affirmation at me while my thirty something year old body struuuuuggles to hike up this peak. HUMBLED is the word that comes to mind ๐Ÿ˜‚ It was such a comical moment I couldn't help but laugh at myself, she also had a little giggle. THEN the struggle kind of.... melted away. We shared a nice little moment, and you can actually say a lot without saying anything at all! I definitely read a 'if I can get up this peak, you can too' in her eyes and smile ๐Ÿ˜‚ And just like that I SUCKED IT IN and marched up that peak... With a few rests up, and I actually RAN down for the first time in 3 years! What did I learn this week? I am capable of more than I think I am. I am stronger than I thought I was and you won't know what you're capable of until you try.

Walking meditation

Wednesday 2nd Apr
Walking meditation is a new discovery for me, who knew you could walk and meditate at the same time!ย
While I like listening to the birds and the trees, I love to change it up with my favorite music, a podcast and now - guided meditation.ย
Feels like I hit two birds with one stone and no matter how long or far I walk, I feel refreshed, energized and ready for the day.ย
Give it a try๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ
Ps. Make sure it's not a "sleepy" meditation ๐Ÿ˜‰
